Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if therapy is right for me? If you're reading this, you're probably already curious about making some changes in your life. That curiosity is often the first sign that therapy could be helpful. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy – many people come simply because they want to understand themselves better or grow in some way.
What's the difference between counseling and therapy? Great question! I use the terms interchangeably. Whether we call it counseling, therapy, or just "our work together," it's all about creating a safe space for you to explore, heal, and grow.
How long does therapy take? This varies so much from person to person. Some people find relief in just a few sessions, others benefit from longer-term work. We'll check in regularly about how things are going and what feels right for you.
What if I don't like IFS? No worries at all! While IFS is my specialty, I'm trained in other approaches too. We'll find what works best for you. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and supported.
Do you take insurance? [Include insurance information specific to Ontario/Canada]
Can I bring my partner to individual sessions sometimes? Absolutely! Sometimes it can be really helpful to have a partner join for a session or two, especially when you're working on relationship dynamics.
What about confidentiality? Everything we discuss is confidential, with very few exceptions (like if there's a risk of harm to yourself or others). I'll explain all of this clearly in our first session.
What if I cry in session? Please do! Tears are welcome here. I always have tissues handy, and there's never any judgment about emotions – they're all part of the healing process.
Can I contact you between sessions? I'm usually available for brief check-ins between sessions if needed. We'll discuss the best way to reach me during our first meeting.
